Born and raised in Victoria, Karen developed her tax and business advisory expertise during 20 years with national CA firms until 2007 when she was a founding Partner of Cameron Izard Snell. Karen advises entrepreneurs through every stage, from incorporation through the growth of their businesses and then planning for their business succession.
Her practice focus includes financial reporting, accounting and tax strategies and tax services to business owners in many industries, and to professionals including law firms, medical professionals and dentists, as well as to individual clients. In her leisure time, Karen enjoys sailing the coastal waters with her family.
Since graduating from the University of Victoria, Angus has spent more than 25 years as a trusted business advisor providing tax planning strategies to high-net-worth individuals, professionals, and owner-managed businesses. Angus leads the firms U.S. tax practice, focusing on cross-border compliance and planning.
Angus grew up on the Island and has volunteered his time with several local non-profit organizations, currently serving on the board of the Victoria Hospice. Angus is an avid cyclist and can be spotted riding his bike to and from work on a daily basis.
Born and raised in Southwestern Ontario, Susan graduated from the University of Western Ontario and received her CA designation while working for Ernst & Young. Susan fled the cold eastern winters for the temperate Vancouver Island climate in 1992. Susan’s practice includes tax planning for individuals, professionals, and owner-managed businesses, with a focus on corporate reorganizations and estate and will planning.
Previously a senior manager in tax at KPMG, Susan brings years of experience and knowledge to each of her clients. Through Susan’s support of the Victoria arts community, the firm is now an annual sponsor for Dance Victoria. You will often see her out and about taking in various musical and culinary events around town.
Matt grew up in the Lower Mainland before moving to Victoria to attend the University of Victoria and received his accounting designation in 2009. Matt works with privately held corporations to provide corporate tax planning and compliance services, including corporate reorganizations for tax-efficient restructuring. He works closely with individuals on personal and estate tax planning and compliance. Matt completed the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course in 2017.
Before transitioning to accounting, Matt had a successful rugby career which included playing for the University of Victoria, the Oak Bay Castaway Wanderers, and representing Canada at over 30 rugby 7’s tournaments worldwide. Outside of work, he enjoys his time with his wife and two sons and watching as many local rugby games as he can. Matt recently started cycling and can be spotted riding local roads, gravel trails, and around the Hartland area.
Growing up in Victoria, Ross attended the University of Victoria, where he earned his Bachelor of Commerce and played varsity golf. After graduating, he moved to Vancouver to begin his articles where he focused mostly on financial accounting and audit services. Ross received his CA designation in 2011 and since moving back to Victoria, his work has been focused on accounting and tax advice for owner-managed businesses and personal and trust tax services.
Ross became a Partner with the firm in January 2021.
Outside of work Ross enjoys fishing and golfing and spending time with his wife and young family.
Vanessa grew up in Victoria and attended the University of Victoria where she completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree. After graduation she decided to take the CA path and took a job articling with Deloitte in Vancouver. During her time with Deloitte she worked in the private company services group providing audit and financial accounting services to clients across a variety of industries. While articling she also obtained her Masters in Professional Accounting from the University of Saskatchewan. After completing her articling, she returned home to the island in 2014 to join the team at Cameron Izard Snell LLP. Her main focus is corporate accounting, business analysis and planning, and corporate tax planning.
In her spare time, Vanessa is very involved in the equestrian community. She spends time on her family farm helping to care for and train young horses. She also enjoys photography and exploring around the Island.
Growing up in the Central Interior of BC and Alberta, Terry attended the University of Victoria where he completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree. After articling with KPMG Calgary and a spending short period with PWC in Bermuda, Terry shifted his focus to tax, taking a position in the oil and gas industry. Returning to Victoria in 2007, Terry has been working in local public practice, providing personal and corporate tax planning and compliance services to owner-managed businesses.
Terry has extensive experience in US personal cross border tax, focusing on compliance and planning. He has completed the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course and brings a substantial level of service and tax expertise to all his clients. Outside of work, Terry enjoys time with his wife and two sons, both avid hockey players, which provides for a busy but fun family life.
Jo-Ann grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba. She spent 10 years in Calgary working in the tax group with Arthur Andersen & Co. before making her way to Vancouver Island. Jo-Ann worked at both Ernst & Young and KPMG in Victoria before joining Cameron Izard Snell LLP. She has over 20 years of experience in providing tax advisory services. She has extensive experience in U.S. personal and trust tax compliance. Jo-Ann also advises clients on the process of expatriation from the U.S. and helps them navigate the IRS voluntary disclosure program. She is one of Victoria’s leading U.S. tax practitioners.
Away from the office, Jo-Ann is an avid gardener. On the weekends she spends time with her family up at their cabin on Hornby Island.
Growing up on the Island, Wade majored in accounting before joining the CGA Program. Before transitioning to public practice, Wade spent time working in industry and with the provincial government. Since joining Cameron Izard Snell he has gained over 10 years of experience focusing on Canadian and US personal tax including cross border tax compliance for Canadians with US income and Americans with Canadian filing requirements. He also provides advising and compliance services for estates and trusts in Canada including trusts with cross-border tax issues such as non-resident executors or beneficiaries. Wade completed the 2 year program with STEP Canada to obtain his Trusts and Estates Practitioners designation. With his TEP designation Wade is able to provide estate planning services and work with lawyers to create certain trusts where needed while planning around potential cross border issues.
In his free time, he enjoys playing men’s league soccer and coaching his kid’s soccer teams. He is also passionate about photography from wildlife to landscape and portrait photography including many of the staff photos on our website. Wade also volunteers his time in various organizations outside tax season including CRA’s Volunteer Income Tax Program and Operation Trackshoes – a weekend long Provincial Sports festival for people with developmental disabilities which takes place each summer at the University of Victoria.
Ashley is a Senior Manager with Cameron Izard Snell LLP specializing in Canadian and US cross border taxation. Born and raised in Victoria, receiving her CA designation in 2014, Ashley has worked in public practice for over 10 years providing full service corporate and personal accounting and taxation services to a large variety of clients. Before returning to public practice and joining the CIS LLP team in 2018 she worked as a Controller for multiple companies across a range of industries.
Ashley enjoys being involved in the community. She is a CPABC Ambassador representing CPABC at numerous events to inspire others to pursue the accounting profession. Ashley is very involved with the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and is an alumni member of the Finance and Audit Committee and past Treasurer for the Prodigy Group.
In her spare time, she enjoys exploring the island paddle boarding and spending time with her friends and family.
Scott grew up in Victoria before moving to Kamloops and to attend Thompson Rivers University where he graduated with a BBA, majoring in accounting. He articled at a local firm where he received his CPA designation in 2017. Since moving back to Victoria to join Cameron Izard Snell LLP, he has been focusing on Canadian corporate tax as well as US and Canadian personal tax.
Outside of the office, Scott spends his time outdoors either on the ocean sailing and fishing, or in the mountains skiing.
Katja is a Manager with Cameron Izard Snell LLP. Before moving to Victoria in 2019, she lived in Kamloops where she received her CPA designation in 2018. Since moving to Victoria to join Cameron Izard Snell, she has been focusing on Canadian and United States cross border taxation and well as Canadian corporate tax.
In her spare time, Katja enjoys spending her time outside and exploring the island hiking, camping and paddle boarding.
Fraser grew up on Vancouver Island and completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Victoria. Before joining Cameron Izard Snell, he spent several years in banking as a financial services representative and then five years at another mid-sized accounting firm in Victoria while obtaining his CPA designation. His main areas of focus are corporate accounting, business analysis, and tax planning for Canadian clients.
Outside of work he enjoys hiking with his wife and dog, playing violin in community orchestra, and exploring roads and trails around Victoria on his bikes.
